Human Appeal Development Organization Upgrades Borehole into Solar-Powered Water Yard in Ganji Payam, Juba County, Central Equatoria Stat
Ganji Payam, Juba County, Central Equatoria State, South Sudan – 2024 — Human Appeal Development Organization (HADO) successfully upgraded a community borehole into a fully solarized water yard in Ganji Payam, significantly improving access to safe and sustainable water for local residents. The 2024 intervention transformed the previously hand-pump-operated borehole into a solar-powered water system equipped with elevated storage tanks, tap stands, and a reliable distribution point. The upgrade increases daily water output, reduces waiting time, and ensures a more consistent supply of clean water to households. Implemented in Ganji Payam, within Juba County, Central Equatoria State, South Sudan, the upgraded water yard now serves hundreds of community members, including women and children who previously traveled long distances or waited extended hours to access water. The solar-powered system enhances efficiency, lowers maintenance costs, and promotes environmentally sustainable water service delivery. In addition to the infrastructure upgrade, a community water management committee was strengthened to oversee operation, maintenance, and equitable access to the facility. A representative from HADO emphasized that the project reflects the organization’s commitment to durable WASH (Water, Sanitation and Hygiene) solutions. “Solarizing water systems improves reliability while empowering communities with sustainable access to safe water,” the representative noted. Community leaders expressed appreciation for the intervention, highlighting its positive impact on public health, livelihoods, and overall well-being.
